Postdoctoral Fellowship at Rhodes University for International Scholars, 2022: The University Council of Rhodes University is pleased to announce the 2022 Postdoctoral Fellowships across all faculties in the University which may be awarded for a single year term with the possibility of renewal. The Fellowships is to help foster existing research and academic or creative activities within the institutes and departments of Rhodes University in South Africa.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship is valued to be a package of R180000 per annum with an additional allocation of a maximum of R20000 to be employed to support paper presentations at conferences. The Fellowship cannot be held concurrently with any other additional funding source.

Postdoctoral Fellowship at Rhodes University for International Scholars | ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be considered for the Postdoctoral Fellowship at Rhodes University for International Scholars, 2021, applicants are to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree, awarded within the last five years and preferably from institution other than Rhodes University and recognized as appropriate to the discipline for which the Fellowship is sought.
  • Successful applicants must be of exceptional merit as shown by the quality and corpus of publications or other recognized forms of achievement relevant to the Fellow’s field. Fellowships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.
  • Applicants who have not completed their PhD at the time the Fellowship is offered must have submitted their PhD thesis by the end of 2019. In these circumstances, the Research Office will require written assurance from the applicant’s supervisor that there is a reasonable expectation that the doctoral degree will be awarded.
  • Applicants should note that the Fellowship cannot be held together with any other additional funding source.

Application Procedures

How-to-Apply: Applications for the Fellowships should be made through the potential host department and then directed to the Research Office ([email protected]). The determination of the award will be made by a committee having the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: research and Development (chair), the Director: Research Office and Faculty Deans.
