Ban Ki-moon Scholarship

The Ban Ki-moon Foundation is pleased to announce the 9th edition of the Ban Ki-Moon Global Citizen Scholarship 2026. This initiative aims to empower young global citizens who are committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through meaningful action.

The Global Citizen Scholarship is a programme designed to equip young changemakers with the skills and support needed to address one or more SDGs within their communities.

Selected scholars will develop and implement a localized SDG Micro-Project while participating in a summer school, peer-to-peer mentoring, expert-led trainings, and specialized workshops on key development topics.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Ban Ki-moon Scholarship, applicants must fulfil the following:

  • Be a young and active Global Citizen leader between 20 – 35 years.
  • Be a citizen/national of one of the following countries: Bhutan, Cambodia, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Jordan, Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, the Philippines, UAE, Uganda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe.
  • Be passionate about taking action for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • keen to learn more about entrepreneurship for sustainable development during an online summer school with MCI Innsbruck.
  • Be ready to address one or more of the SDGs in your local community by proposing and implementing a localized Changemaker Project during the Scholarship period (May – December 2026).

Scholarship Benefits

  • full cost coverage for summer school training with MCI Innsbruck
  • Coverage of various other expert workshops as well as the opportunity for one-on-one mentoring with some of the Ban Ki-Moon Foundation Changemaker Alumni.
  • A EUR 500,00 seed grant to support the implementation of your Changemaker Project to be distributed after the successful submission of a project proposal.
  • A Certificate of Achievement awarded after the successful completion of your signed by both Co-chairs of the Ban Ki-moon Foundation.

Application Procedures

How-to-Apply: During the nomination process you will need to enter:

  • Your personal details (e.g. name, contact information, date of birth, address, citizenship, gender, education, language competence, short profile description)
  • Your professional details (e.g. academic titles, name of organization, function)
  • SDG Micro-Project information (title, issues and SDGs tackled, general process and implementation)

At the final stage of the nomination process you will be prompted to attach the following:

  • Your motivational statement
  • A portrait picture of yourself (JPEG or PNG format)
  • An introduction video of yourself (max 30 seconds, MP4 or MOV format)
  • Your CV
  • A project outline of your SDG Micro Project idea.
