University of Tokyo JASSO Honors Scholarship: University of Tokyo is delighted to offer JASSO Honors Scholarship for privately financed international students who wish to enroll in a degree program at the University.
The scholarship is aimed at supporting privately financed international students in their master’s/doctoral courses, those who sat for the entrance examination outside of Japan, enrolled in GSFS in April 2021.

Eligibility Criteria
The University of Tokyo JASSO Honors Scholarship are awarded based on the following eligibility criteria;
- Applicants must have a GPA of 2.30 or more in the last academic year, and will be able to maintain the same GPA during the scholarship period. (How to calculate the GPA, refer to Applicants Data Sheet).
- Applicants must have graduated from a degree course mainly taught in Japanese or English; or have proficiency in Japanese or English at the following levels: Japanese: JPLT level N2 or higher, English: CEFR level B2 or higher (e.g. TOEFL iBT 72, IELTS 5.5, TOEIC L&R 785)
- Applicants must agree to cooperate in the career path survey conducted by JASSO after the scholarship is granted.
- Allowances (excluding enrollment fee, tuition fee, etc.) received by applicants’ financial supporters such as parents must not exceed an average of 90,000 yen per month.
- If the applicant has a financial supporter in Japan, his/her annual income must be less than 5 million yen.
- Applicants must not be receiving a scholarship that cannot be combined with other scholarships.
- Applicants must not be receiving support under JASSO’s international students support program.

Application Procedures
- How-to-Apply: Applicants are required to send application materials via e-mail with the subject line “JASSO Application” to International Liaison Office ([email protected]). Forms are available at the website. Schedule: ILO will notify all applicants of the result via e-mail. Successful candidates must submit following documents and visit the ILO office for signature in order to receive the stipend: (a) JASSO Application form b) a copy of Japan Post Bank.
