UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development: Nominations are welcomed for the UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development for the 2021 cohort. The Prize seeks to recognize the role of education in connecting the social, economic, cultural and environmental dimensions of sustainable development.
The UNESCO–Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development is funded by the Government of Japan and consists of three annual awards of USD 50,000 for each recipient. The Prize honours outstanding projects by institutions and organizations related to Education for Sustainable Development.

UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development | ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for the UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development:
- Applicant’s nominated projects must practice Education for Sustainable Development as transformative education in support of sustainable development, leading to individual and social change.
- The nominated project/programme should address the three dimensions of sustainable development (society, economy, environment) in an integrated way.
- The nominated project/programme must demonstrate an innovative approach to education for sustainable development.
- The project/programme must be ongoing and have been running for at least four years.
- The project/programme should be replicable, scalable and contribute to one or more of the five priority action areas of the ESD for 2030 framework.
- The nominated project/programme must show a presence of evidence of results and have a high impact relative to the invested resources.

Nomination Procedures
How-to-Nominate: Nomination form must be completed online in English or French via a platform accessible through UNESCO’s website.
Nominations must be completed online by the Permanent Delegation to UNESCO of the concerned Member State, or by an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO. All supporting material (e.g. publications, photos, videos) must be transmitted electronically through the online system.
