Applications are welcomed from suitably qualified applicants for the UBA National Essay Competition 2026 for senior secondary students in Nigeria aimed at promoting the reading culture and encourage healthy and intellectual competition in Nigeria and across Africa.
The Essay competition is part of UBA Foundation’s education initiative to encourage students in their studies. Senior secondary students in Nigerian secondary schools are encouraged to avail themselves of this opportunity.

UBA National Essay Competition 2026 | DETAILS
The Competition will award 15 million naira to the first prize winner in the form of educational grant while the second and third prize winners will receive 10 and 7.5 million naira award respectively in educational grant to any African University of their choice. The 4th place winner will be awarded 5 million naira while the 5th place winner will go home with 3.5 million naira.
The essay topic for this year is “No Nation Can Develop without Food Security. How Can Nigeria Deal With This Problem?”.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the UBA National Essay Competition 2024, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a Nigerian Senior Secondary School Student
- Complete application form.
- Upload a handwritten essay of 750 words max (not typed)
- Upload a recent passport photograph
- Upload a scanned copy of either Birth Certificate, National ID, or International Passport
Selection Procedure
Entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, who will then shortlist 75 essays for further assessment.
Following this, there will be a regional test (North, South, East , and West) where the 75 shortlisted participants will write a supervised essay. You will be expected to select your preferred region while filling this form.

Applicants are to apply online and attach photocopies of their original birth certificates or international passport data page.
