Opterus STEM and Arts Scholarships in Canada for International Students: Opterus is pleased to announce the commencement of application for award of scholarships to young women that will enrol or are enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution, who are pursuing a STEM or Arts educational path. The awards are inspired by Founder, Janet Hawkin’s mother, Dr. Helen McKilligin and sister, Valerie Ann Hawkins.

The scholarship seeks to support young women from any country around the world in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and Arts to be trained in a postgraduate course at an accredited university in Canada for the 2020/21 academic session. Applicants must show and demonstrate commitment to their preferred course of study.

Scholarship Eligibility and Selection Criteria: To be considered for the Opterus STEM and Arts Scholarships in Canada for International Students, applicants are to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be international students who are enrolled in a STEM or Arts related courses at a Canadian university for the 2020/21 academic session.
  • Applicants must be young women between the ages of 16-28 with good academic track records.
  • Applicants must have completed and obtained a bachelor’s degree in STEM or Arts related courses from a recognized university.
  • Applicants must demonstrate good leadership and English language proficiency.

Application Procedures for the Opterus STEM and Arts Scholarships in Canada for International Students


Applicants are to visit the official application website and complete the online application form. Applicants must provide a 250-word answer by giving example of when he/she set a goal and didn’t meet it and what the lessons learned were from the experience.

Applicants are to also describe a time in his/her life where he/she achieved something by NOT following the rules in not more than 250 words.

Applicants are to provide an essay covering their background, overall goals and/or objectives, program of study and reasons for choosing the program, hobbies and other interests, how the program will help develop new perspectives and have future implications for specific communities.
