The Nokia Foundation Scholarship supports individuals pursuing doctoral degrees in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) or fields that contribute to the development of ICT.
The Foundation particularly encourages applications from doctoral researchers who are making strong progress with their research. The optimal time to apply is when the applicant already has one or more accepted publications intended for inclusion in the doctoral dissertation.
The scholarship may be awarded for doctoral studies at a Finnish university or to a Finnish applicant undertaking doctoral studies abroad.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Nokia Foundation Scholarship, applicants are expected to:
- Be pursuing a doctoral degree in ICT or a scientific discipline supporting the development of ICT.
- Be undertaking doctoral studies at a Finnish university, or be a Finnish applicant undertaking doctoral studies abroad.
- Demonstrate a good record of fast-progressing, high-quality doctoral studies.
- Preferably have one or more accepted publications intended to form part of the doctoral dissertation.
- Obtain a commitment statement from their principal supervisor.
- Have a principal supervisor who is a professor, docent or senior scientist at the university where the applicant is pursuing the doctoral degree.
- Ensure that the supervisor submits the commitment statement through the electronic application system.
International doctoral researchers can therefore apply if they are pursuing their doctoral degree at an eligible Finnish university.

Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants can receive a Nokia Foundation Scholarship of up to €7,500.
The scholarship is intended to support and encourage excellent, efficiently progressing doctoral research in ICT and related scientific disciplines.
Applicants should note that:
- The maximum scholarship amount is €7,500.
- A Nokia Foundation Scholarship can be awarded only once to the same individual.
- Successful 2026 recipients will be announced in December 2026.
- Scholarships will be paid directly to recipients by the end of December 2026.

Interested applicants should:
- Access the Nokia Foundation electronic grant application system and begin a new Nokia Scholarship application.
- Complete the required personal, academic and doctoral research information in the online application.
- Provide details of your doctoral research and progress, including relevant publications and other information requested by the Foundation.
- Provide the details of your principal supervisor and request the required commitment statement.
- Ensure that your supervisor submits the commitment statement directly through the electronic application system.
- Review the completed application and submit it online before the application deadline.
