ICGEB-SAWBP PhD Fellowship Scheme for Studies in Biotechnology 2023

The International centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB-SAWBP) PhD Fellowship Scheme, in partnership with the South African Department of Science and Innovation and the Council for scientific and industrial Research will support African women researchers intending to study towards a doctoral degree.

The ICGEB-SAWBP programme promotes the interaction and mobility of South African women Biotechnology researchers and the ICGEB community, including mobility support to visit other ICGEB Components in Trieste, Italy and New Delhi, India.

ICGEB-SAWBP PhD Fellowship 2022/2023 | Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the ICGEB-SAWBP PhD Fellowship 2023, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants must have obtained relevant degrees from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Applicants must be interested in the area of biotechnology.
  • Proposed research projects must be innovative and fall within one of the ICGEB Cape Town Component macro areas of research namely: Infectious Diseases, Non-Communicable Diseases, Bioinformatics, Plant Systems Biology and Virology.

How-to-Apply: Interested applicants for the ICGEB-SAWBP PhD Fellowship 2022/2023 are to complete an online application and provide all the required information.

Required Documents:

  • A certified copy of barcorded ID
  • A copy of applicant’s CV
  • Proof of registration for students currently enrolled at a tertiary institution.
  • Transcript of academic record indicating a minimum accumulative academic achievement in previous degree.
  • Official and certified university degree certificates. For applicants that have enrolled at multiple institutions during their tertiary studies, please combine all your transcripts into one document.
  • Recommendation letter
  • Admission letter
  • A letter of endorsement from the ICGEB Cape Town Group leader.
  • Consent form from parent for applicants under the age of 18
