Global Development Awards Competition 2021: Applications are invited from outstanding researchers from low and middle-income countries for the Global development Awards Competition 2021.

The Global Development Awards Competition is administered by GDN, funded under the Policy and Human Resources Development Fund (PHRD) trust fund managed by the World Bank, and generously supported by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan.

The 2021 edition of the Global Development Awards Competition will feature two categories:

The Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (2021)

The Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD) is a competitive research grant program that identifies and funds outstanding research proposals that have a high potential for excellence in research and clear policy implications for addressing development issues in low and middle-income countries (World Bank definition). The Global Development Network (GDN) invites researchers from low-income or middle-income countries to submit research proposals within the theme, ‘International trade and the promotion of biodiversity.

Benefits
  • The three winning projects will receive grants worth US$45,000 to be used to support the research work proposed by the winners.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Researchers must come from countries classified by the World Bank as low-income or middle income countries.
  • CVs for all team members must be included in the application.
  • The upper age limit is 45 years as of 20 July 2021

How-to-Apply: Applicants for the ORD are to download the proposal template, fill it and save it on their computer in .doc, .docx or .pdf format. Also prepare your organization profile and CVs of the research team. Submit application on the GDN dedicated online submission platform.

The Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (2021)

The Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP) is a competitive grant program that supports non-profit Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in low or lower-middle-income countries (World Bank definition) to recognize the innovative approach of their projects.

Benefits
  • The two first prize winners will receive grants worth US$20,000 each. The second prize will receive a grant of US$5,000
Eligibility Criteria
  • The MIDP Award is open to all development projects being implemented in low-income and lower-middle-income countries.
  • Comply with the WB Environmental and Social Framework’s (ESF) and the Environmental and Social Standards (ESSs).
  • Project must be managed by a non-profit, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) or Civil Society Organization (CSO) with its headquarters in one of the eligible countries.
  • Projects must have started its implementation on 1st June 2020 or earlier to be considered eligible
