Getty Foundation Scholar Grants: Applications are invited from qualified individuals for the Getty Foundation Scholar Grants 2021/22 for established scholars, or individuals who have attained distinction in their fields of endeavours.
Recipients of the grant may be in residence at the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa, where they pursue their own projects free from work-related obligations.

The Getty Foundation fulfils the philanthropic mission of the Getty Trust by supporting individuals and institutions committed to advancing the greater understanding and preservation of the visual arts in Los Angeles and throughout the world. The residential grants will include an office space at the Getty Research Institute or the Getty Villa, an apartment in the Getty Scholar housing complex, airfare to and from Los Angeles, and an available healthcare option.
Getty Scholars may be in residence from three to nine months and may receive benefits up to $65,000 stipends.
- Applications are welcome from researchers of all nationalities who are working in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
- Applicants who received their degree after September 1, 2017, should apply for a postdoctoral fellowship.
- Demonstrate why he/she should be awarded the grant.
How-to-Apply: Interested applicants for the Getty Foundation Scholar Grants 2021 are to create a New Application to begin a new application and then complete and submit the online Getty Scholar Grant application form, along with the attachments (below):
- Project Proposal: Each applicant must include a description of the applicant’s proposed plan to study and research (not to exceed five pages, typed and double-spaced). The description should indicate (1) how the project bears upon the scholar year theme and (2) how the project would be advanced by the resources at the Getty, including its library and collections.
