DeepMind Computer Science Scholarship for International Students [Fully-funded]

The University of Birmingham’s School of Computer Science is pleased to announce two scholarships, kindly provided by DeepMind, that are available to candidates who currently have an unconditional or conditional offer for the MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning programme at our UK Edgbaston campus.

These scholarships will help deserving students advance towards their goals of working in some of the most cutting-edge and in-demand fields of research and industry. With funding from DeepMind, the University of Birmingham is dedicated to broadening the diversity and improving access for underrepresented groups in computer science.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants are expected to meet the following conditions for DeepMind Computer Science Scholarship:

  • Applicants Identify as female
  • Be able to demonstrate (if required) that they would not be able to take up the offer of admission without financial assistance

Applicants must also:

  • Have already received a conditional/unconditional offer to study the MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the University of Birmingham
  • Be ordinarily resident in the UK and would be classified as UK for fee paying purposes, OR be classed as an international student for fee paying purposes.

Scholarship Benefits

The UK scholarship available is valued at £34,225. The value of the scholarship is applied against: 

  • UK tuition fees – £11,340
  • A maintenance grant of £18,985 (to use for living costs), paid in instalments over the duration of the course
  • Funding of up to £2,200 to attend an international conference in the field of AI and/or Machine Learning during the course
  • £1,700 towards the purchase of essential equipment (suitable laptop etc.)

The International scholarship is valued at £56,525. The value of the scholarship is applied against: 

  • International tuition fees – £31,410
  • A maintenance grant of £19,345 (to use for living costs), paid in instalments over the duration of the course
  • Funding of up to £2,200 to attend an international conference in the field of AI and/or Machine Learning during the course as well
  • £1,700 towards purchase of essential equipment (suitable laptop etc.).
  • £1,870 to assist with relocation expenses

Application Procedures

How-to-Apply: Applications can only be accepted from offer holders of the MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Once you have received an offer from the central Admissions Office, you will be sent an email with a direct application link, in order to apply for the DeepMind scholarship. (If you already hold an offer, you will also receive this email when applications are about to open.)

Applications will be shortlisted and suitable candidates contacted for interview at the end of July 2024.  Further information will be shared directly with offer holders regarding the process.
