Eligibility | Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarships 2025
To be eligible for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships 2025 to study in Canada;
- You must be registered or accepted into a full-time doctoral program in year one or two.
- Your field of study is broadly related to the humanities and social sciences or human sciences and is directly relevant to the future of Canada.
- Your doctoral work must relate to at least one of the Foundation’s four general themes:
- Human Rights and Dignity,
- Responsible Citizenship,
- Canada and the World,
- People and their Natural Environment.
- You must be either of the following;
- A Canadian citizen studying at a Canadian or foreign institution, or
- A permanent resident of Canada, or
- A foreign national enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution.
- Eligible candidates submitting a completed application by the deadline will undergo a multi-stage selection process.
Scholarship Benefits
The selected candidates will receive scholarships worth $60,000 each. This is expected to cover all costs related to their doctoral research study in Canada.

How to Apply: Eligible candidates should follow the steps below to apply;
- Step 1: Register for an account on the Foundation’s application portal (Do not create a new account if you have previously applied for the Trudeau Foundation Scholarships. Enter the email that you previously used and select “Forgot password.”)
- Step 2: Fill out the application and attach necessary documents
- Step 3: Respond to the questions to create your application for the 2025 Scholarship Competition.
Required Documents:
- Previous degree transcripts: You’ll be required to provide information on, and upload transcripts for all your post-secondary education.
- Doctoral project proposal: Please think about formulating your research questions and approaches using clear terminology for readers outside your specialty to understand
- References: You will be required to provide the names and email addresses of three referees. At least one must be an academic referee.
