Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Eligibility: To be eligible for the Human Rights Essay Award at the American University, applicants must:
- Applicants must have obtained a degree in Law and has experience or interest in international human rights law.
- Candidates must choose a subject pertaining to the topic chosen by the Academy for the year.
- Submit an unpublished legal article/paper in English or Spanish written solely by the candidate.
- Demonstrate excellent academic and leadership abilities

Application Procedures
How-to-Apply: Candidates are to submit their essay not exceeding 35 pages in length including footnotes. Essay must use Times New Roman font, 12-point double-spaced for the body of the essay and 10-point single-spaced for footnotes.
Applicants are to submit their essay together with their curriculum vitae using the online submission form.
