The British Council is pleased to announce the commencement of application for the British Council Earth Scholarships 2025 aimed at enabling international research collaborations between PhD and Early Career Researchers and Scottish HEIs and academic mentors.

The scholarship seeks to create research opportunities and international mobility which will develop and support new approaches to address the global challenge of climate crisis, and support sustainable research and cultural interchanges.

British Council EARTH Scholarships 2025 | Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the British Council Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be currently registered for a PhD, or graduated with a PhD at any non-UK university, which broadly falls under Arts & Humanities subject areas.
  • Open to PhDs/ECRs registered for or with completed PhDs from outside the UK but will particularly welcome applications from countries in the Global South.
  • Demonstrate excellent academic and research abilities.

Application Procedures

H0w-to-Apply: Interested applicants for the British Council EARTH Scholarships are to complete an online application via the Programme’s webpages.

Applicants will need to create an account on the system, using an email address (ideally an institutional email address) which you check regularly. Applicants will need to identify an academic mentor and a host higher education institution (HEI).

Required Documents:

  • A full research proposal and details of how you will benefit from Cluster membership, cohort-building, training and development activities.
  • A budget and justification of resources.
  • A CV (up to 4 pages).
  • A letter of support from your PhD supervisor (up to 2 pages).
  • A letter of support from the proposed Host Institution (Head of Department or equivalent) up to 2 pages.
