Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships: The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1500 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunst-/Musikhochschulen’).

The Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships for Undergraduates, Graduates, and PhD Students are highly competitive, available to international students and Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Foreign Office. Qualified students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to study in Germany.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, a candidate must be:

Masters Students: 

  • International students who have completed their first degree abroad can apply prior to starting a Master’s degree program in Germany.
  • Priority is given to applicants from DAC countries who have not yet taken up residence in Germany at the time of their application.

PhD students: 

  • International PhD students who have completed their graduate degree abroad may apply for a PhD program in Germany.
  • Priority is given to international applicants from DAC countries who have not yet taken up residence in Germany at the time of their application.

Application Procedures

How-to-Apply: Applications for the Scholarships are only accepted online applications; written proof of German language proficiency (Minimum requirement: „Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang“ Level DSH 2 or „TestDaF“ Level B2) necessary.
